Θαυμάζοντας τον Καθεδρικό Ναό της του Θεού Σοφίας Κιέβου | Saint Sophia's Cathedral, Kiev | Собор Святої Софії

Ταξίδεψε, λίγο πριν την Επανάσταση του 2013, φωτο-αποτύπωσε και παρουσιάζει ο π. ΠΑΝΑΓΙΩΤΗΣ ΚΑΠΟΔΙΣΤΡΙΑΣ

Σήμερα βρισκόμαστε -εικονικά και μόνον- σ' ένα περιώνυμο μνημείο ναοδομίας, ψηφιδωτών και τοιχογραφιών: τον Καθεδρικό Ναό της του Θεού Σοφίας του Κιέβου (στα ουκρανικά Собор Святої Софії), ο οποίος βρίσκεται στην κεντρικότερη πλατεία της ουκρανικής πρωτεύουσας και τον επισκέπτονται χιλιάδες χιλιάδων κάθε χρόνο, λόγω της σημαντικότητάς του. Ανήκει εκκλησιαστικώς στην επίσημη Αυτοκέφαλη Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία της Ουκρανίας, υπό τον Μακ. Μητροπολίτη Κιέβου και πάσης Ουκρανίας κ. Επιφάνιο, αν και στην καθημερινότητά του είναι Μουσείο, προστατευόμενο από την Ουνέσκο. 

Ελάτε μαζί μας στην φωτοξενάγηση που ακολουθεί. Ξεκινάμε από το κέντρο της μεγάλης Πλατείας, διαβαίνουμε την καλλιτεχνημένη πύλη - κωδωνοστάσιο και περιτριγυρίζουμε τον περικαλλή Ναό και τους ευφρόσυνους χώρους, που τον περιβάλλουν:

Ο Μητροπολίτης Γέρων Χαλκηδόνος κ. Εμμανουήλ μετέβη χθες, 26.5.2021, στο Κίεβο, για να μεταφέρει τις ευχές του Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχου κ.κ. Βαρθολομαίου στον Προκαθήμενο της Αυτοκέφαλης Εκκλησίας της Ουκρανίας, Μακ. Μητροπολίτη Κιέβου και πάσης Ουκρανίας κ. Επιφάνιο για τα Oνομαστήριά του. 

Στο πλαίσιο αυτής της επίσκεψης θα συναντηθεί και με κυβερνητικούς παράγοντες για την προετοιμασία της Πατριαρχικής Επίσκεψης στο Κίεβο, τον ερχόμενο Αύγουστο.

Interspersed among the top local and global news stories on television and in the pages of magazines and newspapers, stories and exposés about small and large-scale human trafficking operations and instances of modern slavery have become all too commonplace. Each and every country has a secret economy and a hidden marketplace where people are enslaved, traded and directly sold as commodities. Soon the profits and gains from these new and constantly developing “business” models will become the most lucrative of all illegal activities, overtaking both the arms and drug trades. In a world that has advanced in so many ways, we nevertheless find ourselves returning to the gravest errors and sins of our ancestors: forcing people into slavery and servitude.

Christianity is the religion of incarnation. One of the fundamental points of Christian theology is that the Word of God “became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (Jn 1:14). Therefore, from a Christian perspective, religion is neither an escape from the body nor an evasion from the world. Although Christians await the coming of the Kingdom of God in fulness, they should never forget that it has been already inaugurated among us. For this reason, Christians ought not to be disinterested in public life, but on the contrary, should be engaged in public issues.

OF HIS ALL-HOLINESS ECUMENICAL PATRIARCH BARTHOLOMEW

FOR THE VIRTUAL ECUMENICAL PRAYER
AT THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

Your Excellencies, Ms Patrizia Toia, Members of the European Parliament, Reverend clergy, Ladies and gentlemen, It is an honour and privilege to have been granted the opportunity to address this ecumenical, virtual prayer at the European Parliament, hosted by Parliamentarian Patrizia Toia and organised by the Conference of European Churches, jointly with the Council of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe. While the Orthodox Church has just celebrated Holy Pascha, Easter, (almost three weeks ago), most of the rest of the Christian world is preparing for the great feast of Pentecost, when believers worldwide typically gather to commonly pray for Christian unity. Unfortunately, like last year, the Covid-19 pandemic continues to keep believers away from our places of worship. So, unlike the Apostles, we will be unable to join together physically in one place (Acts 2:1), but, thanks to technology, we can still manifest our unity and reinforce our centuries-old common bonds founded on the Christian Gospel.

Ecumenical Patriarch honored the Victims of the Chernobyl Disaster | Ο Οικουμενικός Πατριάρχης τίμησε τα θύματα του Τσέρνομπιλ [en]

 

On the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew honored the victims of the tragedy and urged them not to forget its lessons in a special video address to the discussion of the Kyiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation Open Ukraine. According to him, the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes during the 1950s and 1960s was a promising hope for humanity, but “the dreadful Chernobyl accident reminded us all how premature and impetuous was such an attitude and expectation.” In this regard, Patriarch Bartholomew stressed that humanity should never forget the tragic consequences of its own failures and learn to say “no” to technologies with harmful effects on the environment.

The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986, at the No. 4 reactor  in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, near the city of Pripyat in the north of Ukraine. It is considered the worst nuclear disaster in history both in terms of cost and casualties, and is one of only two nuclear energy accidents rated at seven — the maximum severity — on the International Nuclear Event Scale, the other being the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan.

Μήνυμα Αρχιεπισκόπου Αυστραλίας για την Εθνική Εβδομάδα Συμφιλίωσης [gr-en]

Συμπληρώνονται σήμερα πενήντα τέσσερα χρόνια από το δημοψήφισμα που αποτέλεσε ορόσημο για την πορεία συμφιλίωσης της ευρύτερης Αυστραλιανής κοινότητας με τους αυτόχθονες πληθυσμούς της χώρας. Σημαντικός σταθμός αυτής της πορείας ήταν η ιστορική απόφαση της 3ης Ιουνίου 1992, δια της οποίας το Ανώτατο Δικαστήριο της Αυστραλίας δικαίωσε τον Eddie Koiki Mabo, αναγνωρίζοντας τα δικαιώματα γης των Αβορίγινων και των κατοίκων των Νήσων Torres Strait. Οχτώ χρόνια αργότερα, δεκάδες χιλιάδες Αυστραλοί, αυτόχθονες και μη, διέσχισαν από κοινού τη γέφυρα Harbour Bridge του Σύδνεϋ και σηματοδότησαν ένα ακόμα κρίσιμο βήμα προς τα εμπρός, με κατεύθυνση πάντα προς την πολυπόθητη συμφιλίωση.
